I’ve seen this hour in a different light
I stretch across time
I move in ways I do not recognise
I bend and blur all lines
I’m just a tiny piece
But I’m a part of this
And over oceans
I am waving
I am waving
There is a heat that reaches far in this cold
A warmth that wraps around and feels like home -

Song story
“Hours” began in 2019 as a song about a long-distance relationship, holding the hope and ache of time stretched across oceans. As the world shifted during COVID, its meaning deepened, becoming a meditation on how we keep connections alive across distance. Over time, “Hours” has evolved through many forms, shaped by live performances and collaborations with different musicians and producers, each version carrying a new shade of its story.
The single will also be released as a limited-run cassette featuring three exclusive alternate versions and original artwork by Selkie, available at shows in Japan and for a limited time worldwide via Bandcamp.
“I’m just a tiny piece, but I’m a part of this, and over oceans I am waving.”
Artist bio

Named after the mythical seal-folk who lose their voices when kept from the sea, Selkie traces its roots to a year when speaking and even breathing felt fragile, when sudden anxiety made it hard to trust voice or body. Sitting at the piano each day became a quiet act of returning, of finding sound and a connection to nature’s rhythms.
In the years that followed, songs began to take shape, eventually becoming Selkie’s first offerings. From pianos in Glasgow to bedroom studios in Berlin and onto stages in Japan, Selkie’s music now holds space for reflection, softness, and the pulse of something bigger beneath the surface.
Listeners have noted echoes of artists such as Radiohead, JFDR, and Björk, describing Selkie’s live performances as immersive and comforting, like stepping into a warm bath. For Selkie, writing and pairing sounds that soothe her own soul has always been at the heart of the project, inviting others into that calm.
Selkie is performing regularly across Japan and has recently begun recording in Tokyo, with plans to release her debut EP in winter 2025.
